We’ve had an interesting day so far. Last night (sun 20th June) we were looking for transport to Boston from Poughkeepsie as we’d decided to wait till Boston to look for a car. Poughkeepsie, while a lovely place, was rather desolate in terms of car dealerships so we figured we’d have better luck near a big city. Looking at local bus and train stations and the time it would take to get to Boston we decided on a train. Surely in the most powerful and “developed” country in the world that would be easy? Nae chance. Decent public transport between cities is tricky. Public transport in small towns is virtually non existent, you seriously need a car to get around. I honestly thing if for some reason cars in America stopped working the country would simply collapse.
So aye, to get a train directly from Poughkeepsie to Boston Iain worked out would take a lot longer and be more expensive than getting a train back to NYC then back up to Boston on a different line. So that was that and here I am, typing this as we’ve just pulled into New Haven Connecticut on the way to Boston. Should be 4 hours all in from NYC to Boston and it’s currently 1:39pm so there’s just under 2.5 hours to go.
Me and Iain have spent the last hour looking at google earth with pretty much this expression - o_O . There’s a massive about of miles we have to cover to make it to Yellowstone nation park by the 9th of August to keep on schedule and meet up with another one of Iains friends from Prague – Lauren.. Should make for an interesting few weeks!
Must admit its been a really fun trip to date and we haven’t had any major disasters. The camera mem card and Iain losing his phone have been an inconvenience at most really. They both have the same pics plus the mem card is working now and we’re going to pick up a new phone and hopefully a car in Boston! My only other concern is that the stitching is coming away from my hand luggage/laptop bag. Might have to buy a new bag along the way if it breaks.
That’s all for now, I’ll give some more details about Boston and hopefully get some pictures re sized and uploaded soon.
Later,
Chris.
